African Dance Workshop with Tamara:
Share in the joy of African dance! African dance is fun, powerful and uplifting:Tamara will lead you through some of the key aspects of African Dance technique and will teach a traditional West African Dance with live drum accompaniment.
ATS® (American Tribal Style Belly Dance) ‘Who’s Who, What’s What and What’s Not (and who cares?)’ with Tracey:
Who’s Who – Key players in the creation, evolution and history of ATS®
What’s What – Exactly which moves, formations and improvisation techniques are part of the ATS® format
What’s Not – Moves, formations and styles that fall outside of the ATS® format
(Who Cares?) – Is it important to know the difference between ATS® and other styles of tribal belly dance? When might it matter and why?
This workshop will be part presentation and part practical, and will include discussion on the points above. The presentation/discussion will take place first so participants are welcome to bring lunch to this workshop. Comprehensive written notes will be provided.
Aguas de Luna: Flamenco Fusion
The Arab roots of flamenco run deep. As flamenco artists and critics began to explore the elements of 'gitano' (gypsy) performance, they rediscovered the rich Arab influence in flamenco. The art form's basic building blocks —sung poetry and music— were borrowed from the Arabs and Berbers who ruled al-Andalus from 711 to 1492, when the Moors were expelled from Spain. In this workshop we will learn a 3 minute fiery Flamenco-Belly Dance fusion choreography that features beautiful arms and hands, and skirt work. As we learn it, we will talk about how to project our inner energy through our dance, both physically (posture, body tension, facial expression) and emotionally (feelings and attitude). We'll invoke the 'duende', the deep emotional participation of the performer. PLEASE BRING: Gypsy or Flamenco skirt.
