Workshop weekend with Ziva of Zilzal Tribal Bellydance - Wellington - Saturday 12 April - Sunday 12 April

Duet Dynamics - Ziva (Sylvia)
Delve into the magic of non-verbal communication between two dancers, then experiment with fun ways to switch it up in a seamless duet. Discover how to keep that communication with your partner while adding texture and drama with an optional floorwork or levelling section. Examine camelwalk duet passes (four variations!), wraparound and Sahra turns, Arabic orbits, Turkish shimmy, doubleback, Chico, and roundhouse passing variations.

Fun with Fades - Ziva (Sylvia)
Captivate and confound your audience with slow and fast lead switches and formation changes for more than two dancers, and terrific tricks for trios. Expand your repertoire with trio camel passes, slow diagonal fade, circling barrel turn, the thresher, Sunanda fade, Turkish shimmy ¼ turn fade, and more!

Dance and Movement from a physiotherapist's perspective – Peter Chum
Dance is an art in which the body is moved in a rhythmic way and often to music. It can be used to communicate ideas, express emotions, to interact socially and to exercise. Often there are spiritual, physical and cultural elements that make each dance technique or style so unique.

When pain and injury hits the performer or dancer it can impact on the reasons why we dance in the first place. Whether you are a professional dancer or one that dances in a weekly social group, injury can be instrumental on the artistic nature of dancing.

This workshop is designed to educate the dancer on a number of issues that often combine to cause pain and injury. Specific examples of muscle imbalances, asymmetrical movement patterns, environmental considerations and warm up and cool down strategies will be discussed. Following this discussion there will be a practical element to the workshop which will run through important stretches and strengthening exercises designed to make the dancer aware of strategies to manage pain and prevent injury.
